Librarian's Report Director Harrison began with a brief discussion of the monthly statistics for March and April. She also announced that Megan Carbiener, Stephanie Oplinger, and Megan Sparks presented at a past Arizona Library Association Conference. Their presentation, titled "Young Adult to Forever Young: Mastering the Intergenerational Program,"highlights our library's success in attracting and engaging patrons of all ages through inclusive programming. The webinar is now available on YouTube. Director Harrison also provided an update on recent library programming. The 2025 Summer Reading Program, titled Color Our World, will run from May 24 to July 12 and is open to all ages. The Scholastic Book Fair will take place during the final week of the program. Children up to age 5 who log 1,000 minutes of reading will receive a free book from the fair. We are grateful to our generous sponsors, including Sonic, Texas Roadhouse, Panda Express, Raising Cane's, and Culver's. The Kickoff Event-Color Your Summer Party-will be held on May 29 from 12:00-2:00 p.m., featuring face painting, balloon animals, crafts, and a collaborative community art project. Special guests will include representatives from Parks and Recreation and the Police Department. For the first time,we're also hosting a Summer Reading Kickoff for Adults and Teens called Paige &Palette, to be held at the Paige Artist Gallery Studio on May 30 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.. Attendees can enjoy light refreshments, prize drawings, and the opportunity to mingle with local artists and check out books. The SES upgrade reported at this meeting has since been canceled. However, the main fire alarm panel is set to be replaced next week. The Goldfield Room and Opal Room will also receive new lighting, consistent with the recently upgraded lighting in the Youth Area. In response to a prior question from a past meeting, it was confirmed that Winter Lecture Series sessions cannot be recorded. As our current strategic plan approaches its end, work is underway on a new plan set to launch July 1, 2025. To guide this process, we've collected feedback from over 450 patron surveys, along with staff surveys. We will soon be conducting focus groups with various age groups and community partners. Lastly, the Public Open House for the Conceptual Design of the Library Reading Garden is scheduled for May 13, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Mountain View Room, overlooking the future garden site.
