HomeMy WebLinkAbout1981 07-22 Library MinutesII CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES 1001 North Idaho Apache Junction, Arizona REGULAR MEETING JubT.622, 1980 The first regular meeting of the Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees was held on July 22, 1980 at 2:00 P.M. at the Apache Junction City Hall Complex pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. PRESENT: Mrs. Eleanor Lewis Mrs. Elizabeth Burks Ms. Hazel Eldridge Mrs. Lillian Castro Mrs. Jan Hiller Mr. Donald Taylor Also present was Sharon Seder, City staff. The Board decided Mrs. Eleanor Lewis should serve as president of the Board. The meeting was called to order by the President, Mrs Lewis. The first order of business was Jan Hiller being nominated for Secretary by Lillian Castro, and seconded by Mrs. Elizabeth Burks.It was a unaminous decision that Jan Hiller be secretary of the Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees. By a drawing, terms of office were selected.Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Hiller were selected for three year terms expiring in July of 1983;Mrs. Castro and Mr. Taylor, two year terms expiring in July of 1982; and Mrs. Burks and Mrs. Eldridge one year terms expiring in July of 1981.The time of 7:00 P.M. was decided for the regular meeting time on the first Tuesday of each month. The minutes of the July 16, 1980 meeting were read by the secretary, Jan Hiller, which were approved as read. Mrs. Lewis made the announcement that video tapes were made of the children's activities at the Library, and they would be shown on Thursday, July 24th at the Library. The Board had a discussion in general of hiring a librarian, including qualifications, salary range, and when to hire. There was discussion also on the best approach to the limited space problem.Since there is no way to expand the existing building, the alternatives of moving the existing building on- to new property or the construction of a new building on a new site were discussed. July 22, 1980 page 2 II II Work sessions and executive sessions were discussed by the board.The legality of executive sessions and unposted sessions is to be researched and an opinion brought back to the Board at their next meeting. There were several questions brought up in reference to the budget.Mrs. Lewis was to obtain an appointment with Mr. Lee, City Manager, pertaining to the budget, and brief the Board at the next meeting. ,Linda Schwartz, Public Relations person for the City of Apache Junction, was present.Ms. Schwartz took pictures of the newly formed Library Board of Trustees.
