Regular Meeting
May 4, 1982
A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees
was held on May 4, 1982 at 7:00 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library
pursuant to notice as prescribed by law.

A motion was made by Lillian Castro to
accept the agenda as presented.Motion
seconded by Ruby Forsberg, and passed
unanimously.
A motion was made by Eleanor Lewis to
accept the minutes of the March 31, 1982
Special Meeting.Motion was seconded by
Ruby Forsberg, and passed unanimously.
The minutes of the April meetings were
not read and approved.
It is in doubt at this time as to how the
County is going to divide its money among
the various libraries in the County.
Elizabeth Burks recommended that we hire a
temporary clerk for the remainder of the
fiscal year with the money left over from
her salary in the amount of $937.00 at $3.85
per hour for the purpose of getting the
card catalog in order and other clerical
duties.
A motion was made by Eleanor Lewis to hire
a temporary clerk position to end June 30,
1982 at $3.85 per hour.Motion seconded by
Donald Taylor, and passed unanimously.
The Summer Reading Program (Kid Power) will
be conducted in the Community Services room.
On Tuesday of each week, Elizabeth will take
over books for the children to read, each
child may check out one book.There will
be some children from Maricopa County
attending this program, and they will be
issued temporary library cards for the dura-
tion of this program.The Arizona State
Librarian had said there was not much hope
for grant money at this time.
Elizabeth discussed with the City the idea of
the "Friends of the Library" meeting in the
Library without her being there.They will
pick up a key that day and then return it
when the meeting is over.This was okayed
by the City.

A monthly report was given to the Trustees
for the month of April, see attached.
An amended letter of resignation was given
to the Trustees, see attached.
Friends of the Library by Mrs. Lewis.Mr.
Nixon in Scottsdale lectured on how to set
up a "Friends of the Library" group and
get things moving.Her group is now getting
its constitution and by-laws formulated.
A committee was formed to study and for-
mulate an ordinance about the Library.The
chairperson is Eleanor Lewis with Jan Hiller
and Don Taylor as members.This will be
presented in a special meeting in the near
future.
No sympathy cards or flowers to be sent to
old volunteers and old members of the Library
who have deceased.We do not wish to offend
these people who have done so much for their
community, but we do not wish to offend by
some receiving and some not.
Ruby Forsberg made a motion to adjourn into
an executive session at 8:30 p.m.Motion
was seconded by Lillian Castro, and passed
unanimously.
