A motion was made by Margaret Hammer to
accept the agenda as presented, and sec-

seconded by Margaret Hammer.
Pamela Loui, Librarian reported that the
circulation of books and periodicals for
March totaled 5,763, up over February and
almost 1,000 over March of last year.A
total of 325 titles were added to the li-
brary during March.
National Library Week will begin April 9,
1984 with ceremonies at City Hall and a
balloon launch at the library.Kenneth
Sanchez will obtain the helium to inflate
the balloons at a discount cost, she said.
A kite construction program was scheduled
to be held at the library in March, but
was postponed until April.
A motion was made by Jan Hiller to accept
job descriptions for the hiring of library
clerks, library assistants and library
technical assistants.
Dwight Pierce seconded the motion, which
passed unanimously.
Pamela Loui suggested that the budget re-
quests be split to separate operational
and acquisitional costs and that an in-
crease be requested for the supply budget.
She suggested further splits in requests
for money be presented in more detail to
justify actual needs.She said additional
money over the present budget will be need-
ed next year for books and periodiCals.
Those items have exceeded this year's bud-
get and money was transferred from other
uses to fill the need.
She said the library will need a tape re-
corder and that consideration should be
given for acquisition of a new copy machine
because the maintenance expense is high for
the old one now in use.

nothingdefinite can be reported until

money for the building will be avail-

pointed to design the structure.
Pamela Loui said a new typewriter,
equipped with a card platen is need-
ed.There still is money in the bud-
get for such a purchase if it is au-
thorized.She said conversion of the
old typewriter could cost as much as
$450.00.After researching several com-
panies, the costs for a new machine
ranges from $889.50 to 945.00.She said
she was waiting to try the new IBM Sel-
ectric 111.Hazel Eldridge said she be-
lieved the best machine might be one call-
ed the Olympia, which she uses in her
work as a school librarian.Mrs. Loui
was asked to investigate the features
and costs of that machine before the next

Friends of the Library under the direc-
tion of Lois Porter, will circulate the
questionnaires to obtain geographic and
individual samplings of opinion.They
will ask for cooperation from group meet-
