A motion to accept was made by Ruby Forsberg
and seconded by Hazel Eldridge. It passed
unanimously.
Pamela Loui, Librarian, reported circulation
in April of 3,866 books and 92 other materials.
This compares with 3,924 for the same month
last year and 5,763 in March, this year,
when winter visitors still were here.
Judy Taylor, Typist, has resigned her position
as an assistant to seek alternate employment.
Mrs. Loui said she now must do all the typing
in addition to her regular duties until a
replacement is appointed.
A library budget of $75,354 was submitted
to the City Manager, the Librarian reported.
It represents a substantial increase over
the $43,000 allocated for this year's budget.
However, the current budget did not cover
costs of salary for one library assistant
and for a substantial number of other goods
and services which were paid for by outside
sources.
Of the budget under consideration, $46,815
was set aside for salaries for library
assistants and aids.The budget requests
a total of $20,850 for books, periodicals
and supplies.Because many people do not
know the costs of acquiring books for the
library, a list of reference books, with
their prices, was supplied with the budget
to make the actual costs more graphic.
The same procedure was applied to periodicals
since they will be a new cost for the
library. These were paid for by the county
this year, Mrs. Loui reported.

7.Call to the public,:
The letter, written by Jan Hiller and
Alice Polomskey, and signed by the
president, was sent to City Council urging
full support for the library budget. It
was read by the president to the board
meeting.
Pamela Loui said the library could buy
a typewriter equipped with card platen for
just under $1,000 which is the State con-
tract price, and that $1,000 was placed in
the budget for that item.
Mrs. Loui said a single -bulb florescent
light would cost $24.75 according to the
city's Operations Division, and could be
covered for an additional $16.
Beverly Erickson, a patron, said a book,
written by an aunt and treasured by her
family was stolen. The book, "Lure of the
Cedars" was not found in her searches until
she found it in the Apache Junction Library.
She asked to buy it.The book had been loaned
out only twice last year.
A motion by Margaret Hammer, seconded by
Eleanor Lewis and passed unanimously, provided
for presentation of the book to the Erickson
family in exchange for a "donation."
Jan Hiller said the change could be made if
a request was carried to the City Council,
but most members said they preferred the
7 p.m. schedule.A motion not to apply for
a change of time was made by Margaret Hammer
and seconded by Eleanor Lewis. The vote was
five in favor and one abstention.
A proposal to hold 15 -minute work sessions
before the regular meetings was rejected
on the basis that each meeting would have
to be advertised and agendas prepared.
A motion by Hazel Eldridge and seconded by
Ruby Forsberg, provides that work sessions
be called by the president when she finds it
necessary.The motion passed unanimously.
The Librarian was approached by a staff
member of the newspaper who suggested she
write a weekly column on library news and
activities.However, she said the writing
could be a hardship while she is having to
do the work of two people.
The subject was tabled until a later date
in a motion by Eleanor Lewis and seconded
by Hazel Eldridge.The motion passed
unanimously.
