planning and design process for the new
library.Members attending the City
Council work session June 4, 1984,
said Michael McNulty, City Manager,
reported a study underway on two
separate sites for the new structure.
He said it is important that the building
be sited away from flood areas so_that
a basement, •to provide more room at lower
cost, could be considered in the plans.
There were not many surprises in returns
from the questionnaires, Mrs. Loui said.
Some of the needs stated by readers
included more books, more space in which to
read or study, special areas for children,
earlier opening time for the library,
and additional activities.She said the
returns represented an "excellent cross-
section of the city."
The City Clerk's secretary, Lori Clark,
called, Mrs. Loui said, to say the city
has an IBM Selectric II typewriter avail-
able for acquisition by the library. The
library would need to purchase the platen
needed for card making. After a discussion
of costs of a new machine as against the
offer by the city, the Board put off
until the July meeting any decision.
Mary Riley, a library volunteer, said that
room for study and reading was an important
aspect of any library. She was assured
by Mrs. Hiller that it was one of the
important considerations in plans for the
new library.
Hazel Eldridge said her students had made,
an excellent video tape of the ceremonies
when the present library was dedicated,
and she wondered if the Library Board would
be interested in keeping the tape. She
said she needed the extra tape and would
erase the one she has if the Board is not
interested. She offered to turn the tape
over to the Library Board in exchange for
a new one equivalent to half -inch JVC 120.
A motion to adjourn was made by Hazel
Eldridge and seconded by Margaret Hammer.
