HomeMy WebLinkAbout1984 12-04 Library MinutesCITY OF APACHE JUNCTION LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES 122 East 2nd Avenue Regular Meeting December 4. 1984 A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees was held December 4, 1984 at 7:00 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. Roll Call -- Present Dwight Pierce Alice Polomskey Charles Russell Ruby Forsberg Eleanor Lewis Staff:Pamela Loui, Librarian 1. Acceptance of Agenda: 2.Acceptance of Minutes: 3.Librarian Report: 4.Committee Reports: 6.New Business: A.Art in Public Places: Absent Hazel Eldridge Jan Hiller Dwight Pierce proposed that the agenda be altered in its order to place item 6 ahead of item 5.Motion to accept the amended agenda was made by Eleanor Lewis and seconded by Alice Polomskey.Roll Call vote was unanimous in favor of altering the schedule of the agenda. The motion to accept the minutes of the November 6 meeting was made by Eleanor Lewis and seconded by Charles Russell. Pam reported slightly lower numbers in all categories of circulation, due in part to three holidays in the previous month.Pam also mentioned that a Special Recognition Day was held in conjunction with the Friends of the Library Open House Day.Response and attendance was good. No additional news'is available on the progress of the construction of the new library. Deborah Whitehurst, Special Projects Director from Arizona Commission of the Arts, gave a presentation, including slides, explaining the program she rep- resents.Information on how to make application for assistance grants was given along with estimates of what the various artists charge for their work. The slides were an overview of works at public buildings in the state',. to give the board an idea of the wide variety of abstract and traditional public art works. A short recess was necessary to allow Ms. Whitehurst time to remove her projector and other items. 5.Old Business: A.Check Point Systems:Two representatives of the Check Point Security Systems, Terry Maroney and Paul Campbell, addressed the Board on the advantages of the Check Point Security Systems.In a highly inform- ative presentation, they provided considerable information about the City of Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting December 4, 1984 Page 2 workings of their product; its mainte- nance and cost of accessories.Mr. Campbell pointed out that it would be advantageous to purchase and install the coded tags before the system is installed to avoid the rush of having to do them in the new building after the move. In response to discussion about loss of books due to theft, Pam Loui pointed out that past loss figures cannot be used as an accurate measure for predicting future loss in a new and larger building where many more volumes will be available.Also, Pam stated her belief that the system should be installed in the new build- ing prior to its opening to avoid any disruption. 7.Call to Public:No members of the public were present at this time. 8.Request for Future Agenda Items:Dwight Pierce asked that requests for additions to the agenda be phoned to him rather than to the library.He gave his home phone number to the membership. Pam Loui added that little new infor- mation or sketches concerning the new library could be expected until January. 9..Adjournment:Meeting was adjourned by Dwight Pierce.
