Page 1City of Apache Junction, Arizona April 24, 2023Health and Human Services Commission Meeting Minutes New BusinessG. 4.23-238 Consideration of Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Health and Human Services funding recommendations to be presented to City Council at the May 15, 2023 Work Session. Vice Chair Kinner moved, seconded by Commissioner Danford that the recommendation to council for the 2023-2024 health and human services funding in the amount of $ 80,000.00 be dispersed as follows: $ 5,010.00 to Apache Junction Community Development Corporation (AJ CDC) $ 5,674.00 to Boys and Girls Club $20,000.00 to Genesis Project $ 7,060.00 to Horizon Health and Wellness $ 7,256.00 to Otherside Ministries $35,000.00 to Superstition Community Food Bank Yes:Commissioner Borey, Commissioner Kinner, Commissioner Brennan, Chairperson Mitchell, Commissioner Moeller and Commissioner Danford 6 - No:0 Commission members discussed their recommendations and reasoning behind them. Information and ReportsH. 5.23-243 Announcement of Community Events. Chair Mitchell reminded everyone the next Kiwanis Club Meeting is scheduled for April 27, 2023, at 6:00 P.M., to be held at the Apache Junction Salvation Army Headquarters located at 605 E. Broadway Avenue, Apache Junction, AZ 85120. Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at noon at the Gold Canyon Golf Resort. The next meeting is scheduled for April 26, 2023. Apache Junction Homeless Coalition meets on May 4, 2023, at 9:30 A.M. at the Apache Junction Multi-Generational Center. Erik Arriola with Superstition Community Food Bank invited everyone to participate in the annual USPS "Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive" on May 13, 2023. This is a partnership that has been in existence since 1991. The postal service workers will collect food from mailboxes and deliver to the food bank. In addition to participating with the food donation, help will be needed the same day at the Food Bank from 9:30 A.M - 4:30 P.M., where the collected food will be sorted, inventoried and labeled for the summer giving program. The Food Bank will be celebrating 40 years of service on July 8, 2023. They will be serving cake and punch at the food bank located at 575 N. Idaho Road, Suite 701, Apache Junction. The time has not been set as of yet. Commissioner Brennan shared that Northern Arizona University (NAU) is offering two free education options: Native American undergraduates can attend NAU tuition free for the fall semester 2023, and Page 2City of Apache Junction, Arizona April 24, 2023Health and Human Services Commission Meeting Minutes also the incoming freshmen or transfer students, which are classified as "dependent students", determined by FAFSA, can attend the fall 2023 or spring 2024 semester. In addition, veterans are qualified for subsidized tuition through the Pat Tillman Foundation, which many times covers full tuition for an entire degree. City Clerk encouraged the non-profits to attend the city council work session meeting on May 15, 2023 at 7:00 P.M., as the council may have questions for them. Staff Liaison's ReportI.
