SPECIAL MEETING
JUNE 18, 1987
The special meeting of the City Council of the City of Apache Junction,
Arizona, was held on June 18, 1987, at the Apache Junction City Council Chambers
pursuant to the notice required by law.
CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Hill called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

PROPOSED ORDINANCE NO. 579, AMENDING
THE APACHE JUNCTION CITY CODE, CHAPTER
8 BUSINESS, ARTICLE 8-3 TRANSACTION
PRIVILEGE TAX, SECTION 8-3-3(A)
PERCENTAGE OF TAX AND BUSINESS LIABLE
TO TAXATION, BY ADOPTING AN ADDITIONAL
ONE CENT (14) SALES TAX
(With the Emergency Clause) )
) City Manager Bill R. Da Vee
explained that the Council having met in Special Session last evening, and
having directed staff to prepare this ordinance resulting in the adoption of an
additional revenue source, in order to address two specific needs, and also to
address the street improvement projects.

City Attorney David Alexander stated
that this additional sales tax is one possible way of raising revenue.
Mayor Hill asked if there was anyone
who wished to speak in favor of or in opposition to the ordinance. There being
no one wishing to address the Council , Mayor Hill closed the hearing to the
public.
Councilman Bluntschly MOVED THAT
ORDINANCE NO. 579, BE READ BY TITLE ONLY WITH THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE, AND THE
.•. READING OF THE ENTIRE ORDINANCE BE WAIVED.
Councilman Damiano seconded the
motion.
VOTE: Unanimous
The motion carried.

ORDINANCE NO. 579, AN ORDINANCE OF
THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZONA, AMENDING THE
APACHE JUNCTION CITY CODE, CHAPTER 8 BUSINESS, ARTICLE 8-3 TRANSACTION PRIVILEGE
TAX, SECTION 8-3-3(A) PERCENTAGE OF TAX AND BUSINESS LIABLE TO TAXATION, AND
ADDING SECTION 8-3-10 TAX USE PROVISIONS AND ESTABLISHMENT OF DATE OF
COMMENCEMENT FOR COLLECTION OF TAX; REPEALING ANY CONFLICTING PROVISIONS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
Councilman Burgess MOVED THAT
ORDINANCE NO. 579, AS READ BY THE CITY CLERK, BE APPROVED AND ADOPTED.

motion.
VOTE: Unanimous
