Idaho Road Regular Meeting February 3, 1987 A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees was held February 3, 1987 at 6:00 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice as prescribed by law. Roll Call -- I.. Present Absent Gordon, Barbara Eldridge, Hazel Navarre, Linda Forsberg, Ruby Sterr, Catharine Class-Erickson, Cheryl Spence, Terry Staff: Pamela Loui, Library Director Others present: None Introduction of special guests: None present. City Manager Bill DaVee who was to have been introduced, was unable to be present. 1. Acceptance of Agenda: Motion was made by Linda Navarre and seconded by Terry Spence to accept the agenda. Motion passed. 2. Acceptance of Minutes for December 2, 1986 Regular Meeting: Motion made by Terry Spence and seconded by Linda Navarre to accept the minutes. Motion carried. ,l=ft 3. Librarian Report: Librarian's report showed that in December, 1986, average daily circulation ranged from 84 to 765. 304 new readers were registered. 398 titles and 29 volumes were added to local collection plus 216 from the County. Withdrawn were 55 from Apache Junction collection and 10 from the County. There were 285 reference questions. There were 7 storyhours, 2 seminar-workshops, and 5 other presentations. In January, the average circulation ranged from 124 to 622 with an average of 406. 483 new readers registered. 304 books, 21 volumes and 136 cassettes were added to the Apache Junction collection plus 73 from the County. Total withdrawn were 59. 258 reference questions were handled. There were 15 storyhours, 3 seminar-workshops, 6 school tours, and 6 film presentations involving 738 participants. i A new service from The Legal Aid of Pinal County is using a part of the library to help with legal questions local residents have. Old Business: a. Status report on Superstition Mountain Historical Museum display• An excellent display is now in the lobby. This has the approval of the City Council. It will be moved later to be against the wall. 5. New Business: a. Preliminary discussion on Budget Request for 1987/88: It is recommended that the book budget be increased to $50,000. This is justified by $9,000 in grant money currently being spent that will not be available next fiscal year. Comparison was made with the Casa Grande Library. Recently, 101 books from the McNaughton (rent-lease) collection were purchased for $202. This increases our permanent book collection. Five-year plan calls for an additional Library Clerk for 1987-88, but as long as the library hours are not expanded, needs can be met by increasing a half- time clerk to full-time. Other needs: Audio-visual equipment 2 better recorders Increase supplies budget A program by a storyteller will be held sharing expenses with Four Peaks Elementary School. b. Request from the Superstition Mountain Art League to display art work in the library: The City Council has already acted upon this. It has been approved for liability. It will be displayed across from the Circulation Desk. Motion was made to accept the request to display in the library by Linda Navarre and seconded by Terry Spence. Motion carried unanimously. 6.
