Regular Meeting
May 5, 1987
A regular meeting of the Apache Junction Library Board of Trustees was
held May 5, 1987 at 6:00 p.m. at the Apache Junction Library pursuant to notice
as prescribed by law.

1. Acceptance of Agenda: Motion to accept the agenda was made
by Barbara Gordon, and seconded by
Terry Spence.
2. Acceptance of Minutes for
April 7, 1987 Regular Meeting. Because there was no quorum, there was
no business transacted.
3. Librarian Report: Two month's reports were given. March
circulation was 9826 compared with 6681
for a year ago. Largest daily circula-
tion was 606. 305 new readers were
.... registered.
April's total circulation was 7637, up
from 5862 a year ago. Largest daily
circulation was 379. 128 reference
questions were handled during the month.
There were 12 storyhours with 165
participants. Other presentations
included five Wednesday film programs
and one balloon launch. Joe Hayes,
story-teller who gave several presenta-
tions for children and one for adults,
was well received. There were 775
participants for his presentations.
Pamela Loui also reported on the
Bicentennial Book Shelf and on Summer
Reading plans to be announced in June.
4. Old Business:
A. Report on tentative budget
for 1987/88: Mrs. Loui made her report and pointed
out that it is a tight budget.
B. Report on parking lot update: The City will try to lease land north
of the Library from the State.
Terry Spence moved, seconded by Barbara
Gordon, that a letter of support be
sent for Mr. Broman's plan. This was
unanimously approved.

5. New Business:
A. Report by Barbara Gordon on
legislation absolving Board
members of liability: Mrs. Gordon will report later after
consultation with State offices.

B. Report on lost in circulation
problem: In 1986, there were 192 AJPL books
lost, with a total value of $2,000.84.
These were lost in circulation. Pinal
County Library Books lost in circula-
tion from the local library were 54,
valued at $658.64.
The recommendation is that the City
attorney send a letter to those who
are delinquent.
C. Policy on unattended children
and/or disruptive behavior• Terry Spence moved that this policy
be accepted. Barbara Gordon seconded
it. Motion carried unanimously.
D. Annual report and Goals &
Objectives: This report is made by the librarian
and submitted annually to the City
Manager.
E. Resignation from Library Board
and consideration of
applications: Cheryl Class-Erickson has resigned
from the Board. Hazel Eldridge has
also resigned, effective May 15, 1987.
Only one Talent Bank application has
been received. It is from Gladys
Benson. Other applications will be
sought.
F. Reminder of Board members
whose terms expire in June: They are Barbara Gordon and Catharine
Sterr
6. Call to the Public: None present.
