Library Board Special Meeting Meeting Minutes November 13,2025
At the previous meeting, the Board requested information regarding literacy rates within the City
of Apache Junction. Using data from the National Center for Education Statistics, only
county-level figures are available. These indicate no notable deficiencies compared with
statewide averages. The Library does not currently provide literacy programs; however, Central
Arizona College offers free GED and ESL classes to the community. This is an area we plan to
explore further as we consider opportunities to expand literacy initiatives. Board input is
welcome as we begin this review.
Garden Project Update:
Planning is approximately 95% complete. Updated design plans were reviewed with the Board.
City Campus South- New Branch Library:
Director Harrison continues to work closely with the project architect and has been on multiple
tours of libraries across the Valley. Discussions are ongoing about designing the campus to
support shared programming opportunities with Parks& Recreation. Public outreach strategies
for that area are also in development. There is still much to determine, but the collaborative
potential is generating enthusiasm.
Arizona@Work Ribbon Cutting:
The ribbon-cutting event with Arizona@Work-Final County was held on November 3rd and
drew approximately 50 attendees. It was a successful event, and their presence at the Library
has now expanded to three days per week. We are pleased to broaden the services available to
our community.
