MEMORANDUM TO: MAYOR AND CI COUNCIL
THROUGH: CITY MANAGER
FROM: L ' COMMUNITY SERVICES SUPERINTENDENT
SUBJECT: BUDGET OVERRIDE
The Parks and Recreation Commission held a special meeting on January 9, 1984
for the purpose of discussing the upcoming One-Time Budget Override, and its
possible effect on the development of Prospector Park.
After lengthy discussion, the Commission voted unanimously in favor of making
a recommendation to the City Council that consideration be given to Prospector
Park development when prioritization of projects to be funded is finalized.
To support this recommendation, three specific reasons were mentioned. They
are:
1. No recreation facilities north of Apache Trail . To date, all facility
development has taken place south of Apache Trail in conjunction with the
Apache Junction School District.
,..
2. Park development is to occur in a timely manner as stipulated in the lease
agreement with the Bureau of Land Management.
3. The availability of matching grant money from the Land and Water Conservation
Fund allows for the opportunity of possibly doubling any amount allocated
for park development.
Finally, the Commission does realize the need for city wide capital improvements,
and strongly supports the idea of the budget override.
Your consideration of this recommendation is appreciated.
