MEMORANDUM TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND
MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: ' CITY MANAGER
SUBJECT: LIBRARY
At a recent meeting with the Architects, he is of the opinion that we
will not be able to build the library as designed for the amount budgeted.
This is due to the increases in the building index. The most recent
square footage costs are in the range of $50 to $67. The building is
being designed to hold the costs down. It is estimated that we would
have to add $190,000. We have the funds to do this. $12,000 of this
amount was known from the beginning since our grant for the Senior
Center was reduced by that amount.
There is no need for the Council to take any action at this time, as
�.� this will be included in the budget at which time you can approve or
disapprove.
The only other option as I see it would be to reduce the size of the
Library. I do not recommend this as it would only speed up the expansion
of the Library, and at an increased cost.
