The council also directed the staff to ask the Facility District to provide potential questions and preferred qualifications for the interview process. City of Apache Junction,Arizona Page 1 Printed on 12/8/2015 NOVEMBER 25, 2015 MEMORANDUM TO HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS THROUGH: BRYANT POWELL, CITY MANAGER FROM: KATHLEEN CONNELLY, CITY CLERK SUBJECT LEGAL ADVERTISING AGREEMENT (WORK SESSION AGENDA ITEM FOR DECEMBER 14,2015 AND CONSENT AGENDA ITEM FOR DECEMBER 15, 2015) State law requires that we publish certain legal notices such as election matters, public hearings, bids, etc (A R S § 39-204) The law further defines "newspaper" and prohibits the use of publications that are designed primarily for advertising, free circulation or circulation at nominal rates or do not have a bona fide list of paying subscribers (A.R.S. § 39-201). This statute prohibits the use of our two weekly papers. The Mesa Tribune no longer has paid subscribers or paid delivery within the city. The Arizona Republic does meet statutory requirements. The rates have increased after staying the same for four years. Mesa Republic - from $0 33 to $0.40 per line per day. Arizona Republic -from $0.80 to $0.85 per line per day.
