(2) ADJOURNMENT 150 NORTH OCOTILLO • POST OFFICE BOX K,APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA 85220 • TELEPHONE(602)982-6154 March 24, 1980 City of Apache Junction 150 No. Ocotillo Apache Junction, AZ. 85220 Madam Mayor— Members of City Council I regret not being able to attend this work session as I believe it is of the utmost importance at this time to pass a fair and equitable fee schedule to be attached to Ordingnce 18, Business License. If it has not been read already, I think Council should read the Ad Hoc Committee's recomendation in it's entirety to the people present at this work session. I take exception with the Ad Hoc Committee's recomendations on two points. First, in Item 2, I would like to see "All Business" broken into two separate catagories: those who are located within the city and those located outside the city, doing business (sales & delivery) within the city. Reason — I was told the initial $40 license application fee was to take care of zoning checks, fire inspection, etc. which is a must if we are to have a controlled growth within Apache Junction. These expenses will not be incurred if the business is located outside the city or even in another state. I feel that the $10 per year figure arrived at by the Ad Hoc Committee is sufficient to cover the cost of these on the first year as well as the following years. Secondly, in Item 5, it is penalizing a select few businesses for being in a business that is disapproved by a few people. I, myself, have never been in a "bath house", had my fortune told or had to resort to a "dating service", however, to the west of us in East Mesa is Buckhorn Mineral Baths. I think if you have ever had the opportunity to meet Mr. or Mrs. Sliger you would find them an asset to our community. If they, or anyone else, wanted to open such a business in Apache Junction should they be penalized? I think our laws on prostitution are good and that we should have, if we don't already, laws protecting the citizens from fraud, but I feel that the Item 5 as it is written is discriminatory and should not be permitted in this fee schedule.
