Commissioner Frank Page 1City of Apache Junction, Arizona March 4, 2026Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes Schoenbeck and Commissioner Manny Vega shared about their volunteer endeavors with the Lost Dutchman Marathon. Staff Report6. 26-54 Presentation and update on projects and opportunities in the parks and other service areas. Parks Superintendent Dave Butler updated the commission with all of the most recent completed projects. He shared that the pool updates and shade structures are completely done as well as the Little League concession renovations. He also shared that Phase 1 of the Rodeo Grounds is just about finished with exception to the large pavilion and lighting which are expected to be installed late April or May of this year. Superintendent Butler wrapped up his presentation by presenting a conceptual photo of new shade structures that will be installed at the Dutchman Dog Park in both the active and passive areas. He noted that the project will start March 9, 2026 and the park is expected to reopen March 23, 2026. 26-55 Presentation, discussion and update on upcoming events and activities. Recreation Superintendent Jamie Sullivan presented the commission with the latest marketing video called Rec Recap which highlighted events and activities that took place over the last month. She shared successes about the Prospector Play Day event and several popular classes and activities are full. Superintendent Sullivan announced all of the upcoming events such as the Superstition Sleepover, Dino Days, dog pictures with the Easter Bunny, Leprechauns at Silly Mountain and much more. She closed her presentation by thanking those that volunteered for the Lost Dutchman Marathon and noted how funds from the Marathon come back to support the local community. Old Business7. 26-73 Presentation and Discussion on the Parks and Recreation Fee Study. Management Analyst Riley King presented additional information to support the ongoing fee study. She briefly reviewed the study’s purpose, its history, and the factors that may require fee increases, including personnel costs, card transaction fees, and rising expenses for utilities, materials, and supplies. At the commission’s request, she also shared data on comparable cities and their income per capita. In addition, she explained House Bill 4030 and its potential impact on the current fee study. Finally, she presented detailed fee comparisons organized by category. Commissioners had opportunities for questions and discussion with staff. New Business8. 26-74 Discussion and review of memorial dedication process. Park Naming PolicyAttachments: Director Liz Langenbach presented the draft version of the City of Apache Junction's Memorial Donation Program's graphic that will be used as handouts to the public and part of the campaign. She briefly reviewed the types of memorials and noted that the cost can severely fluctuate depending on different variables and that the fees for a memorial is an actual donation to The Friends of Apache Junction organization. She also explained the process and how having a handout provides one point of contact for community members to be able to get more information about the program.
