Call to Order Chair Heather Moeller called the regular meeting of the City of Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Commission to order at 6:00 p.m. 2. Pledge of Allegiance Chair Heather Moeller led in the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. Roll Call Present 6- Commissioner Kyhn, Commissioner Schoenbeck, Commissioner Borey, Commissioner Klepper, Chairperson Moeller, and Commissioner Vega Excused 1 - Vice Chair Madrid Staff present: Jamie Sullivan, Recreation Superintendent Dave Butler, Parks Superintendent Riley King, Management Analyst Christi Hamm, Senior Administrative Assistant 4. Consent Agenda Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck moved that the Parks and Recreation Commission accept the agenda as presented and approve the minutes from the May 6,2026 regular meeting. Commissioner Lamont Klepper seconded the motion.This was approved. Information and Reports Commissioners who attended the Pickleball Grand Opening shared positive feedback about the City of Apache Junction,Arizona Pagel Parks&Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes June 3,2026 facility and expressed enthusiasm about the large turnout. Other commissioners also shared their experiences and observations from the Mother's Day Tea event. 6. Staff Report 26-266 Presentation and update on projects and opportunities in the parks and other service areas. Superintendent Dave Butler provided an update on current and completed projects. He announced that the new pickleball courts project has been completed, with the grand opening held on May 28,2026, and noted that the courts have been heavily utilized in the mornings. He also reported that the Rodeo Grounds Phase I project is nearing completion and is currently in the substantial completion status, with only lighting and punch-list items remaining. He concluded his update by sharing photos of the Rodeo Grounds Event Center's pavilion with the roof installed and highlighted many key features. 26-267 Presentation, discussion and update on upcoming events and activities. Recreation Superintendent Jamie Sullivan provided an update on recent events, programs, and activities. She reported successful participation at the Kids to Parks Day event and the Mother's Day Tea. She informed the Commission that the department conducted its annual all-staff training on May 16, 2026, with approximately 100 employees who attended. Superintendent Sullivan also shared that sports camps and summer camp programs are underway and noted that the first and second sessions of swim lessons are full,with the third session nearly full. She announced that registration for additional swim lesson sessions will open on June 18. She also highlighted upcoming events and activities, including the Library's Waves& Flags activity on June 10, the big 4th of July event, and a planned Rodeo Grounds Open House this fall. She concluded by inviting commissioners to view the Teen Talks series on the City's YouTube channel. 7. Old Business 26-268 Presentation, discussion, and final consideration on proposed changes to the Apache Junction City Code, Volume I, Chapter 4: Fees, Article 4-1: Parks and Recreation Fees Schedule. Attachments: Commission Presentation June-2026 Fees Staff Recommendation Fee Schedule Comparison 2026-WITH AVERAGE MARKET 2026 Chapter 4 Fee Schedule REDLINE Management Analyst Riley King presented the final staff-recommended fee adjustments.She reviewed the proposed fee increases and the addition of new amenity fees at the Rodeo Grounds. Management Analyst King noted that the electrical vendor fees had been updated since the previous meeting and explained the fee structure is based upon usage and location within the grounds.Commissioners Frank Schoenbeck and Manny Vega commented that the proposed fee increases were reasonable and remained community-friendly. Frank Schoenbeck moved that the Parks and Recreation Commission recommend to the City Council,changes to the Apache Junction City Code,Volume 1,Chapter 4: Fees,Article 4-1: Parks and Recreation Fee Schedule,as presented by staff.Commissioner Diele Kyhn seconded the motion.This was approved. Superstition Boulevard. Commissioner Diele Kyhn moved,seconded by Commissioner Judy Borey that the regular session of the Parks and Recreation Commission be held August 5,2026 at 6:00 p.m.in the city council chambers located at 300 E Superstition Boulevard,Apache Junction.This was approved. 12.
