AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,AMENDING THE APACHE JUNCTION CITY
CODE,CHAPTER 3 ADMINISTRATION,BY ADDING ARTICLE 3-12
SAFETY COMMITTEE AND ARTICLE 3-13 SAFETY POLICIES;REPEALING
ANY CONFLICTING PROVISIONS;PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I IN GENERAL
That Article 3-12 Safety Committee be added to the Apache Junction
City Code to read as follows:

Section 3-12-1 Committee Established
There is hereby established a Safety Committee for the City of Apache Junction.
Section 3-12-2 Membership and Terms of Office
The Safety Committee shall consist of a designated safety representative
from each of the following areas of responsibility:Magistrate Court,
Department of Public Safety,Department of Public Works,Office of
Finance,Office of the City Clerk,Office of Community Services and
Department of Planning.
In addition,there shall be a Safety Officer appointed by the City
Manager who will serve as a direct link between the Safety Committee and
the employee and the City Manager.
Section 3-12-3 Rules of Procedure
The Safety Committee shall meet on a regular basis as deemed necessary to
update the City Safety Program and review its effectiveness at each level.
The Safety Committee will function as an advisory body to develop and
recommend to the City Manager matters of policy and procedure affecting
the administration of the City Safety and Loss Administration Program.
Section 3-12-4 Duties and Responsibilities
The Safety Committee shall have the duties and responsibilities as set
forth in the City of Apache Junction Employee Safety Handbook,Safety
Committee Functions,and as hereafter amended.
That Article 3-13 Safety Policies be added to the Apache Junction
City Code to read as follows:

ARTICLE 3-13 SAFETY POLICIES
A.That certain document entitled City of Apache Junction
Employee Safety Handbook,three copies of which are on
file in the office of the City Clerk,is hereby adopted
by the City Council and made a part hereof by reference.
B.That certain document entitled Department of Public Works
Employee Safety Handbook,three copies of which are on
file in the office of the City Clerk,is hereby adopted
by the City Council and made a part hereof by reference.
C.That certain document entitled.Police Policies and
Procedures,Chapter 5,Policy and Ethics,three copies
of which are on file in the office of the City Clerk,
is hereby adopted by the City Council and made a part
hereof by reference.
SECTION I I REPEALING ANY CONFLICTING PROVISIONS
All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance or any part of the code adopted herein
by reference are hereby repealed.
SECTION III PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY
If any section,subsection,sentence,clause,phrase or portion
of this ordinance or any part of the code adopted herein by reference
is,for any reason,held to be invalid or unconstitutional by the
decision of any court of competent jurisdiction,such decision shall
not affect the validity of the remaining portions thereof.
SECTION IV EMERGENCY CLAUSE
It being necessary for the preservation of peace,health and
safety of the City of Apache Junction,Arizona,that this ordinance
become effective immediately,an emergency is hereby declared to
exist and this ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Mayor and City Council of the City of
Apache Junction,Arizona,this 7th day of February ,1984.
