AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,AMENDING THE APACHE JUNCTION
CITY CODE,CHAPTER 2 MAYOR AND COUNCIL,SECTION 2-4-1
REGULAR MEETINGS;AND SECTION 2-4-6 ORDER OF BUSINESS;
REPEALING ANY CONFLICTING PROVISIONS;PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY;AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I IN GENERAL
That Chapter 2 MAYOR AND COUNCIL,Section 2-4-1 REGULAR MEETINGS,
be amended to read as follows:
Section 2-4-1 Regular Meetings
The regular meetings of the council shall be scheduled for the
first and third Tuesdays of each month at seven o'clock p.m.,
in the Apache Junction City Hall Complex,1001 N.Idaho Road,
Apache Junction,Arizona.However,when circumstances are
such that there is no official business requiring council
consideration or that there will be no quorum of the council
present,the meeting may be cancelled by the Mayor after
notifying all members of the council,the city manager and
the city clerk.Notice of cancellation of the meeting shall
be posted at least forty-eight hours prior to the time
originally scheduled for the meeting in at least three public
places in the city.At no time,however,shall the city
council meet less than once per month.
That Section 2-4-6 ORDER OF BUSINESS,be amended to read as follows:
E.Introduction of Distinguished Guests and Visitors;Awards,
Presentations and Communications.The Council may acknowledge
the presence of an individual or individuals present in the
audience.Proclamations issued by the Mayor,presentations
from other agencies,and awards given to or received by the
city will be considered at this time.
G.Public Hearings.Public hearings required by city ordinance,
state statute or federal regulations shall be conducted and
all interested parties given the opportunity to speak.Public
hearings shall be conducted on amendments to the zoning
ordinance,i f requested by the aggrieved party or any member
of the public or of the city council,or i f no public hearing
has been held by the Planning and Zoning Commission.
J.Miscellaneous Business.Prior to adjournment the council shall,
as i t deems necessary consider such business as not specifically
provided for herein."Call to the Public"items will be con-
sidered at this time.Petitions,remonstrances,communications,
and comments or suggestions from citizens present shall be heard
by the council.All such remarks shall be addressed to the
council as a whole and not to any member thereof.Such remarks
shall be limited to five minutes unless additional time is
granted by the council.All speakers must submit to the mayor
or city clerk a written request to speak in advance of each
meeting.Where one group wishes to present comments or dis-
cussion,one person from the group shall be designated to
present said comments or discussion.No person other than
the individual speaking shall enter into the discussion

without the permission of the presiding officer.
SECTION I I REPEALING ANY CONFLICTING PROVISIONS
All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with the pro-
visions of this ordinance or any part of the code adopted herein by
reference are hereby repealed.
SECTION III PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY
I f any section,subsection,sentence,phrase,clause or portion
of this ordinance or any part of thecode adopted herein by reference is,
for any reason,held to be invalid or unconstitutional by the decision of
any court of competent jurisdiction,such decision shall not affect the
validity of the remaining portions thereof.
SECTION IV EMERGENCY CLAUSE
Whereas,i t is necessary for the preservation of the peace,
health and safety of the City of Apache Junction,Arizona,an emergency
is declared to exist and this ordinance shall become immediately operative
and in force from and after the date of posting hereof.

THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,THIS 4TH DAY
OF SEPTEMBER ,1984.
