CALL TO ORDER Mayor Serdy called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. B. INVOCATION I Vice Mayor Wilson gave the invocation and Councilmember Schroeder led the meeting attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance. C. Yes: 7- Mayor Serdy, Vice Mayor Wilson, Councilmember Barker, Councilmember Evans, Councilmember Rizzi, Councilmember Struble and Councilmember Schroeder No: 0 3. 18-597 Consideration of approval of entering into a contract assignment from VIP Vending, LLC to West Valley Vending, Inc for the remainder of the original agreement for one(1)year with automatic renewals not to exceed eight(8) years. AWARDS, PRESENTATIONS AND PROCLAMATIONS F. ANNOUNCEMENT OF CURRENT EVENTS 4. 19-011 Announcement of current events from mayor and councilmembers. Vice Mayor Wilson announced he and Councilmember Barker attended the Legislative Day hosted by the League of Arizona Cities and Towns. He stated it was a great turnout by both municipal leaders and legislators. He urged Arizona residents to monitor the bills and activities during the State's legislative sessions each year. Councilmember Struble stated the Apache Junction Kids Idol, recently held at Barleens, had a record attendance. It was a great show and he was amazed to see such great talent. Councilmember Rizzi congratulated the contestants of the Apache Junction Kids Idol and reiterated the amazing talent the young performs have. She attended the Pinal Partnership breakfast and the Governor's East Valley State of the State address. She also attended the Legislative Day at the League and stated there were several bills that could significantly impact the city. Councilmember Barked announced Paw and Claws had a sale on the adoption of dogs and/or cats, only $14.00. She mentioned several bills presented to the legislature that would have significantly impacted the city appear to be off the list for consideration. She also attended an Economic Development meeting at Maricopa Association of Governments(MAG)where talks continue regarding trade with Mexico and how significant that economic impact is to the state. Mayor Serdy announced the United Way will host"Project Connect"at Center State Church,located at 550 S. Ironwood Dr. Apache Junction, AZ 85120 on Friday, February 8th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This is a national movement of bringing together local resources to help community members in need. City of Apache Junction,Arizona Page 2 City Council Meeting Meeting Minutes February 5,2019 He announced the MoMo Bowl received recognition of receiving so many top Yelp reviews it made the top Yelp 100 in the country. He announced the Realtor Roundup at the Multi-Gen center on Thursday, February 7, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. He has attended several State of the City's recently and announced Apache Junction will hold their second State of the City on Wednesday, February 13th at 7:00 p.m.at the Apache Junction Performing Arts Center on the apache Junction High School campus at 2525 S.Ironwood Drive. He announced Bryant Powell,Apache Junction's City Manager was elected to be board president of the Arizona City Manager's Association for the next year. G. CITY MANAGER'S REPORT 5. 19-012 City manager's report. City Manager Bryant Powell stated he has served on the ACMA Board for the past three years. It is a voluntary role, the organization is a non-profit, professional organization dedicated to increasing the knowledge and ability of city, town, and county managers, as well as other local government administrators and to strengthen the quality of local government in the State of Arizona through professional management,education,training,and the mutual exchange of information. He mentioned the Arizona Republic recently highlighted some of the changes cities have done in their community and Apache Junction was listed first emphasizing the environmentally sound build of City Hall. He introduced Jennifer Pena the new Deputy City Clerk. H. PUBLIC HEARINGS I. OLD BUSINESS J. NEW BUSINESS 6. 18-578 Consideration of appointment to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Council interviewed applicants for this position at the February 4th work session and may take this opportunity to fill the vacancy. Councilmember Rizzi thanked the applicants for their willingness to donate their time and knowledge to serve on the various City Boards and Commissions. It is not something to take on lightly; there can be a lot of work preparing for the meetings. Councilmember Rizzi nominated and seconded by Mayor Serdy to appoint Dirk Begeman to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Motion failed: Yes: 3 Mayor Serdy,Councilmember Rizzi and Councilmember Schroeder No: 4 Vice Mayor Wilson,Councilmember Barker,Councilmemer Evans,Councilmerner Struble Vice Mayor Wilson nominated and seconded by Councilmember Schroeder to appoint Dave Hantzsche to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
