AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,AMENDING THE APACHE JUNCTION
CITY CODE,CHAPTER 2 MAYOR AND COUNCIL,BY PROVIDING FOR
THE DIRECT ELECTION OF THE MAYOR;SPECIFYING THE TERM OF
OFFICE OF THE MAYOR;PROVIDING FOR SUBMISSION OF THE
QUESTION OF DIRECT ELECTION OF THE MAYOR TO THE VOTERS
OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION AT THE REGULAR PRIMARY
ELECTION TO BE HELD MARCH 26,1985 AND CONDITIONAL
ENACTMENT;AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I DIRECT ELECTION OF MAYOR
Beginning with the election to be held on March 24,1987
the mayor of the City of Apache Junction shall be directly elected by the
qualified electors of the City of Apache Junction.
SECTION I I TERM OF OFFICE
The term of office of the mayor shall be two years.
SECTION III CONDITIONAL ENACTMENT
The provisions of this ordinance shall not be effective until
approved by a majority vote of qualified electors voting at the regular
primary election to be held on March 26,1985.
SECTION IV EMERGENCY CLAUSE
Whereas,the immediate operation of the provisions of this ordinance
is necessary for the preservation of the public peace,health and safety,an
emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in full
force from and after its passage by the council.

APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,THIS 5TH DAY OF FEBRUARY ,1985.
