SPECIAL MEETING
JANUARY 16,1989
The special meeting of the City Council of the City of Apache Junction,
Arizona,was held on January 16,1989,at the Apache Junction City Council
Chambers pursuant to the notice required by law.
CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Hill called the meeting to order at 7:56 p.m.

NOMINATIONS FOR AND SELECTION OF
CANDIDATES TO FILL VACANT CITY COUNCIL
POSITIONS (DISCUSSION AND ACTION ON
NOMINATING PROCESS OF VACANCIES
)Mayor Hill explained that there are
several applicants for the two vacancies on the City Council,and thanked all of
those for applying.
City Attorney David Alexander
explained that there first needs to be a motion to open nominations for the
specific positions vacant.
Mayor Hill explained that Councilman
Bluntschly and Councilwoman Perkins have resigned from the City Council to run
for the position of Mayor in the next election,creating two vacancies on the
City Council for which nominations need to be made.
Councilwoman Gardner MOVED THAT
NOMINATIONS BE OPENED FOR THE OFFICE OF CITY COUNCILMAN.

Councilman Damiano seconded the
motion.
VOTE:Unanimous
The motion carried.
Councilman Connolly NOMINATED ELDON
COX FOR THE VACANCY CREATED BY THE RESIGNATION OF MRS.JEAN PERKINS.
Mayor Hill asked i f there were any
other nominations,three times.
Councilwoman Gardner MOVED THAT
NOMINATIONS BE CLOSED FOR THE VACANCY CREATED BY THE RESIGNATION OF JEAN
PERKINS.
Councilman Damiano seconded the
motion.
VOTE:Unanimous
The motion carried.
VOTE (ON THE NOMINATION OF ELDON COX):Unanimous
The motion carried.
Mayor Hill asked for nominations for
the vacancy created by the resignation of Ken Bluntschly from the City Council.

motion.

City Attorney David Alexander asked
i f the City Clerk would announce the new Councilmembers,for the record.
City Clerk Kathleen Connelly
announced that the newly appointed Councilmembers are Eldon Cox,for the seat
previously held by Councilwoman Jean Perkins,and Tony Vehon for the seat
previously held by Councilman Ken Bluntschly.
City Attorney David Alexander asked
that these names be entered into the official record.
ADJOURNMENT
)There being no further business to
discuss,Mayor Hill adjourned the meeting at 8:20 p.m.
