AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,AMENDING THE APACHE JUNCTION
CITY CODE CHAPTER 2 MAYOR AND COUNCIL,ARTICLE 2-8 PARKS
AND RECREATION COMMISSION AND ARTICLE 2-14 YOUTH ADVISORY
BOARD;REPEALING ANY CONFLICTING PROVISIONS;PROVIDING
FOR SEVERABILITY;AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I IN GENERAL
That the Apache Junction City Code Chapter 2 MAYOR AND COUNCIL,
Article 2-8 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION,Section 2-8-2 Memberships and Terms
of Office,Section 2-8-5 Meetings,and Section 2-2-8 Duties,shall be amended to
read as follows:
Section 2-8-2 Membership and Terms of Office
A.The Parks and Recreation Commission shall consist of seven members
who shall be appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.
Ex officio members,whithout voting privileges,may be designated by
the Mayor with the approval of the City Council.
B.The initial appointments of members shall be as follows:three members
with terms beginning upon their appointment and expiring April 2,1981;
three members with terms beginning upon their appointment and expiring
April 1,1982;and three members with terms beginning upon their
appointment and expiring April 1,1983.Thereafter,commission
members shall all serve for a term of three years or until their
successors are duly appointed and qualified.Terms of members shall
be so staggered that the terms of no more than three members shall
expire in any one year and,in accordance with this section,all such
terms shall expire on June 30 of the applicable year.I f a reduction
in membership i s ever approved by the City Council,the terms of office
due to expire or unfilled at the time of amendment shall remain so
and no future appointments shall be made to replace those' members.
Section 2-8-5 Meetings
The commission shall establish a regular meeting day and time at least
once a month.Special meetings may be called as required.A quorum shall
consist of four voting members for the transaction of all business.
Section 2-8-8 Duties
The commission through the Director of Community Services shall recommend
regulations and policy for the government,control and improvement of the
public parks of the City of Apache Junction.The commission shall also
recommend fees for the use of public park facilities and recommend full
time or seasonal employees as necessary for the efficient management of
the city parks and recreation program.
And that the Apache Junction City Code,Article 2-14 Youth Advisory
Board,Section 2-14-2 Membership and Terms of Office,Subsection B,be amended
to read as follows:
Section 2-14-2 Membership and Terms of Office
B.All members of the board shall be appointed for a term of one year with
all terms expiring on May 31 and shall serve until their successors
are duly appointed and qualified.Ex officio members shall serve
for a term of one year with said term expiring on May 31.

SECTION I I REPEALING ANY CONFLICTING PROVISIONS
All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions
of this ordinance or any part of the code adopted herein by reference are hereby
repealed.
SECTION III PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY
I f any section,subsection,sentence,clause,phrase or portion of
this ordinance or any part of the code adopted herein by reference is,for any
reason,held to be invalid or unconstitutional by the decision of any court of
competent jurisdiction,such decision shall -not affect the validity of the
remaining portions thereof.
SECTION IV DECLARING AN EMERGENCY

I t being necessary for the preservation of the peace,health and
the City of Apache Junction,Arizona,that this ordinance become
immediately,an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this
shall be effective immediately upon its passage and adoption.

CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA.
