AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZONA, ESTABLISHING TRAFFIC CONTROL AT 16TH
AVENUE AND WINCHESTER ROAD WITH THE USE OF 4 WAY STOP SIGN
INTERSECTION IN THE CITY O F APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA;
REPEALING. ANY CONFLICTING PROVISIONS;AND PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY.
WHEREAS,• pursuant to Arizona Revised Statutes Annotated
("A.R.S.-)§ 9-276,it is in the public interest to ensure safe,
effective and efficient traffic flow along public right-of-ways
within the City of Apache Junction, Arizona; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Apache Junction City Code §,§ 12-2-4 and
12-2-10 (A)and (B),the City of Apache Junction may erect and
maintain stop signs to regulate traffic at intersections; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council find that traffic control
devices are necessary to further this goal; and
WHEREAS, significant changes in the traffic pattern occurringat the intersection of 16 th Avenue and Winchester Road justifies
installation of the stop signs; and
WHEREAS,there are existing Stop Signs northbound and
southbound on Winchester Road at the intersections at 16th Avenue
and Engineering Studies indicate installation of Stop Signs on 16th
Avenue eastbound and westbound are justified,and whereby the
installation and enforcement of stop signs is justified.
NOW, THEREFORE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZONA, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I ESTABLISHMENT OF STOP SIGN LOCATIONS
1.Stop signs shall be established at the following locations:
Eastbound 16th Avenue. at Winche'ster'ROad
Westbound 16th Avenue at Winchester Road
2.The Director of Public Works and the Director of Public Safety
are empowered and directed to initiate appropriate actiOn to
install, maintain and enforce the laws relating to stop signs
erected at the locations noted above.
SECTION II REPEALING ANY CONFLICTING PROVISIONS
All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance,or any part of the code adopted

herein by reference, are hereby repealed.
SECTION III PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY
If any section, subsection, sentence, phrase, clause or portion of
this ordinance,or any part of the code adopted herein by
reference, is for any reason held tb be invalid or unconstitutional
by the decision of any court of doMpetent jurisdiction,such
decision shall not affect the validity of the reffiaining portions
thereof.
