A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZONA, TO SUPPORT THE BUCKHORN-MESA FLOOD
CONTROL PROJECT.
WHEREAS flood prevention watershed projects are in-
tended to reduce flood waters and resulting damage to life and
property, and
WHEREAS the Buckhorn-Mesa watershed project is one of
five (5) interrelated flood prevention projects in Eastern
Maricopa and Northwestern Pinal Counties, and
WHEREAS the people living in the Buckhorn-Mesa Water-
shed together with the East Maricopa Natural Resource Con-
servation District, Pinal County Board of Supervisors, Flood
Control District of Maricopa County and the Soils Conservation
Service have formulated a plan for flood prevention, and
WHEREAS the people living in the watershed, together
with Congress have approved the plan, and
WHEREAS an environmental impact statement was approved
in 1976, and
WHEREAS the project will be financed by Federal Funds
made available through Public Law 566 and other funds provided
by the Flood Control District of Maricopa County and the Pinal
County Board of Supervisors, and
WHEREAS the aesthetic problem will be minimized by land-
scaping techniques, and
WHEREAS the benefits derived will include reduction of
flooded streets, damaged utilities, damaged homes, sedimentation
of streets and maintenance costs, and
WHEREAS the above benefits will improve access of trans-
portation corridors during storm conditions,
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Mayor and City Council
of Apache Junction, that the City of Apache Junction supports
the Buckhorn-Mesa Watershed Project.
