HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 81-23RESOLUTION NO.81-23 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,ENDORSING THE DISTRIBUTION OF HUMAN SERVICE FUNDS AMONG ARIZONA CITIES IN A MANNER WHICH IS EQUITABLE AND TAKES INTO CONSIDERATION THE POPULATION GROWTH. WHEREAS,the sister cities of the East Valley areas of Maricopa County,namely Apache Junction,Mesa,Tempe,Gilbert,Chandler and Guadalupe,find themselves bound together by a common concern in the area of providing human services;and WHEREAS,these cities have experienced a rapid growth i n population which has caused a concomitant increase in the demand for these human services;and WHEREAS,these East Valley cities acknowledge the need for and inevitability of reductions i n federal expenditures and that these reductions will include human service expenditures;and WHEREAS,these East Valley cities are obligated to meet an ever-increasing demand for human services while faced with decreased funding for these services;and WHEREAS,federal block grant funding for human services will be distributed to the cities through the Office of the Governor and State administrative agencies;and NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Apache Junction,Arizona,that the City Council hereby recommends to the Office of the Governor and the respective State administrative agencies that Federal Block Grants and State Human Service Funds be distributed in an equitable manner,considering population size and growth as a criteria to assure that the residents of the East Valley continue to receive a fair share of funding for human services.
