A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,
ARIZONA,CREATING THE APACHE JUNCTION EQUINE COMMITTEE.
WHEREAS,there exists a need i n the city of Apache Junction for per-
sons interested i n equines to preserve and maintain a western atmosphere and
way of life i n Apache Junction;and
WHEREAS,there i s a need for an organized means to make recommenda-
tions and input into the decision -making process of the city through authorized
committees;and
WHEREAS,horse ownership and horse -related property are abundant i n
the city;and
WHEREAS,members of the community have requested the creation of an
equine committee and to be able to serve on such committee;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION that there i s hereby established i n the city of Apache
Junction an Equine Committee which shall consist of seven members to be appointed
by the mayor with the approval of the City Council,such members to serve at the
pleasure of the City Council.
FURTHER,RESOLVED that the duties of the Equine Committee shall be to
recommend to existing commissions standards for the keeping of equines within
the city of Apache Junction,which standards will have as their purpose the pro-
tection of the health,peace,and safety of the residents of the city,and which
will assure that equines are kept i n a clean and sanitary condition and not be
subjected to suffering,cruelty,or abuse.
FURTHER,RESOLVED that the Committee may review and make recommenda-
tions to city commissions regarding ordinances relating to horse ownership and
horse -related properties and any ordinance which may affect the traditional
western way of life.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Mayor and the City Council of the City of
Apache Junction,Arizona,this 6th day of May ,1981.
