A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE
JUNCTION,ARIZONA,EXPRESSING SUPPORT BY THE CITY FOR PINAL
COUNTY AND THE BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT TO CLOSE THOSE BUREAU
OF LAND MANAGEMENT LANDS IN APACHE JUNCTION TOWNSHIP TO CAMPING.
WHEREAS,there are certain lands i n the Apache Junction Township
area (Township 1 North,Range 8 East,Gila and Salt River Base and
Meridian)that are under the ownership and control of the Bureau
of Land Management;and
WHEREAS,although Bureau controlled lands are often appropriate
for multiple use including camping;but
WHEREAS,Bureau controlled lands within the Township do not
have established waste water facilities or solid waste disposal,
but many persons have established long-term residency on certain
of these Bureau of Land Management lands; -and
WHEREAS,there exists the possibility of the community health
being threatened by long-term uncontrolled waste water and solid
waste disposal;and
WHEREAS,long-term residents on the Bureau of Land Management
lands do not contribute to the county tax system,but require the
use of governmental facilities without contributing to the cost
of these services;and
WHEREAS,certain persons have been convicted of felony crimes,
said persons who were residing at the time of apprehension on certain
of these Bureau of Land Management lands;and
WHEREAS,certain persons residing on these Bureau of Land Manage-
ment lands on a long-term basis do not have an established water
supply and do not reside i n safe and sanitary housing;and
WHEREAS,there are numerous children residing with parents
on the BLM lands and these children may be residing in an unsanitary
and unhealthy living environment;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council
of the City of Apache Junction,Arizona,do hereby declare their
support for Pinal County and the Bureau of Land Management to close
those Bureau of Land Management lands in Apache Junction Township
(Township 1 North,Range 8 East,Gila and Salt River Base and Meridian)
to camping,and call upon the Bureau of Land Management to close
as soon as federal regulations permit and enforce said lands from -
camping.
