A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION, PINAL COUNTY,
ARIZONA, AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT -
CHIEF OF POLICE - TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT
WITH THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION,
OFFICE OF HIGHWAY SAFETY, FOR FUNDING OF A
TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT UNIT, SUPPORT EQUIPMENT
AND PERSONNEL FOR THE APACHE JUNCTION POLICE
DEPARTMENT AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the Office of Highway Safety will consider the
request of the City Council of the City of Apache Junction for the
funding of a Traffic Enforcement Unit and Support Equipment and
Personnel to provide for a Countermeasure to Keep the
D.W.I. Driver off the road before he or she injures someone and
to provide Selective Traffic Enforcement as needed in the City
for Speed, Failure to Yield and other moving violations for the
Apache Junction Police Department; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes it to be in the best
interest of the City to maintain safe motoring within the City in
an efficient and responsive manner; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of this request for assistance is to
control alcohol, speed and other moving related acitivites within
the City limits, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City
Council of the City of Apache Junction that the Chief of Police
be and hereby is authorized and directed to execute any documents
which may be necessary to implement said agreement:
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZONA, THIS U M DAY OF MAY
1982.
