A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,FINDING AND DECLARING THAT SAID
MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DEEM THAT FOUR-YEAR STAGGERED TERMS
FOR MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL WOULD BE BENEFICIAL TO THE
CITIZENS OF APACHE JUNCTION AND ORDERING THAT THERE BE
SUBMITTED TO THE VOTERS OF SAID CITY THE QUESTION AS TO
WHETHER OR NOT STAGGERED TERMS FOR MEMBERS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL SHALL BE ADOPTED IN THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION;
PROVIDING FOR THE GIVING OF NOTICE OF SAID ELECTION AND
THAT ALL QUALIFIED VOTERS OF APACHE JUNCTION SHALL BE
ENTITLED AND QUALIFIED TO VOTE AT SAID ELECTION.
BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDERED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,THAT:
1.The Mayor and City Council of the City of Apache Junction,Arizona,
deem that the establishment of staggered terms for the members of
the City Council,i n the manner described i n Arizona Revised Statutes
§9-272 (A),would be beneficial to the citizens of Apache Junction.
2.The question of four-year staggered terms i s hereby ordered to be put
upon the ballot at the next general city election to be held on the
17th day of May,1983,for the purpose of submitting to a vote by the
qualified electors of the City of Apache Junction the question as to
whether or not the City Council shall have four-year staggered terms
for its members.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,that the councilmen elected shall be conditioned on
a favorable vote upon this question at the city general election on the
17th day of May,1983,and shall be divided into classes.The first class
shall consist of three (3)councilmen and the second class shall consist of
four (4)councilmen.The three persons elected,but receiving the lowest
number of votes,shall be i n the first class and shall hold office until
the next regular city election to be held i n 1985.The four persons
receiving the highest number of votes shall be i n the second class and
shall hold office until the next regular city election to be held i n 1987.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,that the councilmen shall,thereafter,be elected
i n classes of three and four at successive,regular elections and shall
hold office for terms of four (4)years each and until their successors
are elected and qualified.
PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 1ST DAY OF MARCH ,1983.

Y DECLARANDO QUE DICHO ALCALDE Y CONCEJO MUNICIPAL
DETERMINAN QUE PLAZOS ESCALQPADOS DE CUATRO ANOS
PARA LOS CONCEJALES LES SERIAN VENTAJOSOS A LOS
CIUDADANOS DE APACHE JUNCTION Y MANDANDO QUE SE
SOMETA A LOS VOTANTES DE DICHA CIUDAD LA CUESTION
A QUE SEAN 0 NO SEAN ADOPTADOS LOS PLAZOS ESCALONADOS
PARA LOS CONCEJALES EN LA CIUDAD DE APACHE JUNCTION;
PROVIENDO PARA EL DAR DE NOTICIA DE DICHAS ELECCIONES
Y QUE,TODOS LOS VOTANTES CALIFICADOS DE APACHE JUNCTION
TENDRAN DERECHO A VOTAR EN DICHAS ELECCIONES.
HA SIDO DISPUESTO Y ORDENADO POR EL ALCALDE Y EL CONCEJO MUNICIPAL
DE LA CIUDAD DE APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,QUE:
1.El alcalde y el concejo municipal de la ciudad de Apache Junction,
Arizona,determinan que el establecimiento de plazos escalonados para
los concejales,a l a manera definida en los Estatutos Revisados del
Estado de Arizona §9-272(A),serian ventajosos a los ciudadanos de
Apache Junction.
2.La cuestidn de plazos escalonados de cuatro aos por l a presente es
mandado aparecer en l a boleta de las prGimas elecciones generale
de l a ciudad que se celebrargn el 17 de Mayo de 1983,con el proposito
de someter a un vote por los electores calificados de l a Ciudad de
Apache Junction l a cuestiOn de que el Concejo Municipal tenga o no
tenga plazos escalonados de cuatro aiTos para sus concejales.
ADEMKS HA SIDO DISPUESTO,que los concejales, elegidos sergn condicionados
por un voto favorable acerca de esta cuestion en las elecciones generales
de la ciudad el dia 17 de Mayo de 1983,y sergn dividios en clases.La
primera clase consistirg'de tres (3)concejales y la segunda clase consi,stira
de cuatro (4)concejales.Las tres personas elegidas,,que reciban el numero
menor de voto",estaran en l a primera clase y mantendran el cargo concejil
hasta las proximas elecciones regulares de 1,a ciudad que se celebrar6/en
1985.Las cuatro personas que reciban el numero mayor de votps estaran el
l a segunda clase y mantendrgh el cargo concejil hasta las proximas elecciones
regulares de la ciudad que se celebrargn en 1987.
SEA APROBADO ADEMAS,que los concejales,despues de eso,seran elegidos en
grupos de tres y cuatro personas en sucesivas elecciones regulares y
mantendr6 el cargo concejil por plazos de cuatro (4)anos cada uno y hasta
que sus sucesores sean elegidos y calificados.
PASADA Y ADOPTADA ESTE PRIMER DrA DE MARZO DE 1983.
