HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 83-11Da vi City RESOLUTION NO.83-11 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,REPEALING RESOLUTION NO.83-02 AS PREVIOUSLY ADOPTED AND ADOPTING IN LIEU THEREOF RESOLUTION NO.83-11, FINDING AND DECLARING THAT SAID MAYOR AND COUNCIL DEEM THAT FOUR YEAR STAGGERED TERMS FOR MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL WOULD BE BENEFICIAL TO THE CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION AND ORDERING THAT THERE SHOULD BE SUBMITTED TO THE VOTERS OF SAID CITY THE QUESTION AS TO WHETHER OR NOT STAGGERED TERMS FOR MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL SHALL BE ADOPTED IN THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION;PROVIDING FOR THE GIVING OF NOTICE OF SAID ELECTION AND THAT ALL QUALIFIED VOTERS OF SAID CITY SHALL BE ENTITLED AND'QUALIFIED TO VOTE AT SAID ELECTION. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,THAT: SECTION 1 That the Mayor and City Council of the City of Apache Junction,Arizona, deem that the establishment of staggered terms for members of the City Council,i n the manner described i n Arizona Revised Statutes 9-272(A), would be beneficial to the citizens of Apache Junction. SECTION 2 The question of four-year staggered terms i s hereby ordered to be put upon the ballot at the next general city election to be held on the 17th day of May,1983,for the purpose of submitting to a vote by the qualified electors of the City of Apache Junction the question as to whether or not the City Council shall have four-year staggered terms for its members. SECTION 3 The Councilmen elected,conditioned upon a favorable vote upon the question at the City election on the 17th day of May,1983,shall be divided,by lot, into,two classes.The first class shall consist of three (3)councilmen. Those i n the first class shall hold office until the next regular city election i n 1985.The second class shall consist of four (4)councilmen. Those i n the second class shall hold office until the regular city election to be held i n 1987. SECTION 4 At election thereafter,councilmen shall be elected i n classes of three and four at successive,regular elections and shall hold their office for terms of four years each and until their successors are elected and qualified.
