A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,SUPPORTING AND ENDORSING
PROJECTS PERTAINING TO THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF TRANS-
PORTATION FISCAL YEAR 1984 TENTATIVE 5 YEAR PROGRAM FOR
HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND RECOMMENDING CERTAIN AMENDMENTS
TO THE STATE TRANSPORTATION BOARD.
WHEREAS,the East Valley has been determined to be one
of the fastest growing areas i n the State,and
WHEREAS,all cities i n the East Valley are i n agreement
that good transportation,maintenance and improvements are a
prerequisite for quality growth,and
WHEREAS,the Governor recognizes and supports the need
to accommodate rapid urban development i n the East Valley area,
and
WHEREAS,the City of Apache Junction desires to provide
it's citizens with an adequate,quality and safe transportation
system,
NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Apache Junction,Arizona,that,upon reviewing the
tentative Arizona Department of Transportation 5 Year Program AND
prior to the finalization of these programs,the State Transportation
Board i s urged to make the following amendments to the 5 Year Highway
Construction Program:
1.Provide for the extension of the Superstition Freeway
(SR 360)to be constructed to Power Road i n 1984 or be placed on
the program for construction i n 1985 and that the $2,000,000
allocated for landscaping for this segment be rescheduled to be
available for road construction.
2.That the next five mile segment of the Superstition
Freeway (SR 360)to Signal Butte Road be scheduled to immediately
follow the construction to Power Road.
3.That the remaining five plus mile segment of the
Superstition Freeway (SR 360)to U.S.60,80,89 be scheduled to
immediately follow the construction to Signal Butte Road.
FURTHERMORE,the City Council of the City of Apache
Junction supports all other tentative highway construction
projects as presented and commends the Transportation Board for
the fine job they have done and are doing to plan and maintain the State's
Highway System.
