A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,DECLARING THE INTENT OF THE CITY
TO NOTIFY PROPERTY OWNERS IN SECTIONS 7,31,33,AND 34,
TOWNSHIP 1 NORTH,RANGE 8 EAST,GILA AND SALT RIVER BASE
AND MERIDIAN,AND IN SECTIONS 3,4,5,AND 6,TOWNSHIP 1
SOUTH,RANGE 8 EAST,GILA AND SALT RIVER BASE AND MERIDIAN,
ALL IN PINAL COUNTY,ARIZONA,TO DETERMINE IF THEY DESIRE
TO BE ANNEXED BY PETITION TO THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,
ARIZONA,AND DIRECTING THE CITY COUNCIL'S ANNEXATION
COMMITTEE AND CITY MANAGER TO PERFORM CERTAIN DUTIES.
WHEREAS,the Annexation Committee has reviewed the areas contiguous
to the City and has determined that at this time annexation should only be
considered for the west 3/4 of Section 7,and Sections 31,33,and 34,
Township 1 North,Range 8 East,Gila and Salt River Base and Meridian,and
Sections 3,4,5,and 6,Township 1 South,Range 8 East,Gila and Salt River
Base and Meridian,all located in Pinal County,Arizona;and
WHEREAS,the Annexation Committee has reviewed the various costs
should annexation occur to properties contiguous to the City of Apache Junction,
Arizona;and
WHEREAS,the City of Apache Junction has performed land use planning
i n the township and for two miles south of the township;and
WHEREAS,the adopted "Apache Junction,Arizona,2001 Land Use Map"
indicates the land use categories for the subject area,including areas deemed
for "Light Industrial Opportunity";and
WHEREAS,the Economic Opportunities Action Team i s strongly encouraging
the City to develop a sound long-range economic development program to retain
local workers and provide future jobs for the children of community families,
and said development appears to target on lands south of the proposed freeway
currently outside the City limits;and
WHEREAS,should the area south of Apache Junction be annexed then
land use along the freeway corridor will be a locally resolved issue to allow
more local involvement i n the process;and
WHEREAS,the Arizona Revised Statutes requires a petition signed by
a majority of the property owners for real and personal property as a condition
of the City considering annexation;and
WHEREAS,the City Council believes that citizens should be informed
prior to considering such a request;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,THAT:
1.The Annexation Committee i s hereby directed to focus on the
possible annexation of the west 3/4 of Section 7,and Section 31,
33,and 34,Township 1 North,Range 8 East,and Section 3,4,5,
and 6,Township 1 South,Range 8 East,Gila and Salt River
Base and Meridian,Pinal County,Arizona.
2.The Annexation Committee i s requested to contact the property
owners in the above -described area and meet with them to explain
the purpose,implications,and process for annexation to the
City of Apache Junction,Arizona,and to invite their petition.
3.The City Manager i s directed to provide staff assistance to the
Committee as the Committee carries out its charge of responsibility.
