A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,COMMITTING AVAILABILITY FOR
USAGE BY SENIOR CITIZENS OF THE PROPOSED SENIOR CITIZENS/
COMMUNITY CENTER TO BE FUNDED IN PART BY 1984 COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS.
WHEREAS,the City of Apache Junction i s making application for
funding through the State of Arizona administered Community Development
Block Grant Program to construct a Senior Citizens/Community Center;and
WHEREAS,the State CDBG Program requires that 60 percent of
CDBG funds requested benefit low and moderate income persons for activities
justified or benefitting low and moderate income persons;and
WHEREAS,senior citizens are presumed to be of low or moderate
income;and
WHEREAS,commitment by the City of Apache Junction to make the
Senior Citizens/Community Center available to senior citizens for at least
60 percent of the hours of operation is necessary to document the City's
intention to use CDBG funds to benefit primarily low and moderate income
persons.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that the Mayor and City Council
of the City of Apache Junction,Arizona,hereby commit that the Senior
Citizens/Community Center funded in part by the CDBG Program will be made
available to senior citizens,senior citizens groups,and senior citizens
organizations for at least 60 percent of the normal hours of operation;and
THAT during those hours of operation in which the Senior Citizens/
Community Center i s not being utilized by senior citizens,the facility
will be made available to other community groups or organizations,including
those comprised of low and moderate income persons or handicapped persons;
and
THAT this commitment is to remain in effect for a minimum of
five (5)years following completion and commencement of use of the Senior
Citizens/Community Center.
