A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,DECLARING SUPPORT FOR THE DESIG-
NATION OF THE APACHE TRAIL (STATE HIGHWAY ROUTE 88)AS A
HISTORICAL HIGHWAY.
WHEREAS,the Apache Trail is a roadway rich in historical background
and has a heritage that connects Arizona's earliest days as a raw frontier to
the vigorous pulse beat of the present;and
WHEREAS,the Apache Trail provides contemporary travellers with the
opportunity to view the vast natural beauty of Arizona in co -existence with
man-made wonders such as the Salt River lakes and Roosevelt Dam;and
WHEREAS,establishing the Apache Trail as a historic highway and
placing names and landmarks along this historic route would provide an
educational vantage point for all to appreciate;and
WHEREAS,i t would be of great value to the number one industry of
the State of Arizona,namely tourism,to declare the Apache Trail as a
historic roadway and appropriately designate landmarks and places which
contributed to the history of our State;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,by the Mayor and City Council of
the City of Apache Junction,Arizona,requesting the support and cooperation
of the Arizona Department of Transportation and the State Board of Trans-
portation in designating the Apache Trail (State Route 88)as a historic
state roadway and requesting the installation of historically accurate signs
and monuments marking landmarks and places of interest and historic value
along the length of the Apache Trail.

APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,THIS 17TH DAY OF SEPTEMBER ,1985.
