A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE
JUNCTION,ARIZONA REQUESTING THE ADVISORY BOARD OF THE FLOOD CONTROL
DISTRICT OF MARICOPA COUNTY TO CONSIDER APPROPRIATE MODIFICATIONS TO
THE APACHE JUNCTION FLOOD RETARDING STRUCTURE IN ORDER TO ACCOMMODATE
EXPANSION OF THE INITIAL ROADWAY CONSTRUCTION FOR FUTURE TRAFFIC NEEDS.
WHEREAS,the Flood Control District of Maricopa County and other sponsors
have agreed to construct Flood retarding structures and floodways to protect
life and property i n Maricopa and Pinal Counties,and
WHEREAS,the Apache Junction Flood Retarding structure i s presently under
design,and
WHEREAS,the Apache Junction Flood Retarding structure lies partially
within the City limits of the City of Apache Junction,and
WHEREAS,the East Valley including the City of Apache Junction i s projected
to be the fastest growing part of the Phoenix urban area,according to private
and governmental studies,and
WHEREAS,the proposed structures life will extend into the first part
of the 21st Century,and
WHEREAS,the proposed 28'roadway section and 10'shoulders as proposed
will only accommodate present and short term traffic demands,and
WHEREAS,failure to consider future development needs may result i n an
inadequate transportation corridor,and
WHEREAS,the costs to expand the roadway base i n the future would be
substantially greater due to inflation,development encroachments and governmental
requirements.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of the City
of Apache Junction,Arizona,that the request of the Flood Control District
of Maricopa County to consider construction of the Apache Junction Flood Control
Structure in such a manner so as to accommodate future roadway expansion and
transportation needs.
