HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 87-58RESOLUTION NO.87-58 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,SUPPORTING THE SUPERSTITION MOUNTAIN MENTAL HEALTH CENTER,INC.AND ENDORSING THEIR REQUEST TO WITHDRAW FROM BHACA AND JOIN WITH •THE EAST VALLEY BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AGENCY OR BE STATE DIRECT FUNDED. WHEREAS,the Superstition Mountain Mental Health Center,Inc.provides mental health services to residents of the City of Apache Junction and as a provider of such services is dependent upon the Behavioral Health Agency of Central Arizona (BHACA)for funding its programs and; WHEREAS,continued efforts to obtain funding through BHACA have failed to produce a distribution of money which is fair and equitable based on the population served and/or which is sufficient to meet the needs of the residents of Apache Junction,and WHEREAS,i t is recognized that no progress has been made toward the achievement of a fair distribution of funds to the agencies providing services in the area administered by BHACA despite the best efforts of those concerned, and; WHEREAS,BHACA continued to be both an administrative agency and a service provider it is concluded that such conflicts will continue to prohibit reasonable resolution of the funding inequities now present, NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the City of Apache Junction supports and endorses the request of the Superstition Mountain Mental Health Center,Inc.to withdraw from the BHACA Administrative entity and to join with the East Valley Behavioral Health Agency (EVBHA)or be directly funded by the State of Arizona. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Apache Junction that the request of the Superstition Mountain Mental Health Center,Inc. is critical to the needs of the residents of the city and that the reviewing agencies are urged to move swiftly to correct the inequities which exist in distribution of funds to our citizens. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Apache Junction that the appropriate reviewing agencies transfer from BHACA to EVBHA the funding allocation intended for residents of the Apache Junction area and that such funding be consistent with the per capita amount presently allocated to BHACA.
