A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE
JUNCTION,ARIZONA,REQUESTING THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPOR—
TATION TO PROVIDE FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO IRONWOOD DRIVE,IN CON—
JUNCTION WITH THE EXTENSION OF THE SUPERSTITION FREEWAY AND CON—
STRUCTION PHASING.
WHEREAS the present schedule for the extension of the Superstition Free—
way calls for three construction phases;and
WHEREAS Phase Two of the project calls for interim termination at Iron—
wood Drive;and
WHEREAS significant increase in traffic can be anticipated along the
Ironwood Drive corridor;and
WHEREAS elementary and high schools as well as residential and commer—
cial development exist along Ironwood Drive;and
WHEREAS concerns are expressed for the safety of school children,senior
citizens and the general public;and
WHEREAS the present roadway is not sufficient to accommodate the pro—
jected traffic volumes;and
WHEREAS the existing intersection and the signalization at the inter—
section of US 60 and Ironwood Drive is not adequate to meet future traffic
demands.
NOW,THEREFORE,be i t resolved that the City Council of the City of
Apache Junction requests the Arizona Department of Transportation to make
improvements to Ironwood Drive from the freeway to US 60 so that significant
increases in traffic volume can be safely accommodated.
PASSED this 3RD day of FEBRUARY ,19 87 ,by the Mayor
and City Council of the City of Apache Junction,Arizona.
