HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 87-05RESOLUTION NO.87-05 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,REQUESTING THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF TRANS— PORTATION TO CONSIDER A FUTURE ALIGNMENT OF STATE ROUTE 88 IN THE VICINITY OF GOLDFIELD ROAD WITH NO INTERRUPTIONS OF EXISTING STATE ROUTE 88. WHEREAS the Superstition Freeway is scheduled for extension from Power Road to US 60;and WHEREAS the State desires to connect State Route 88 with the Superstition Freeway;and WHEREAS alternative alignments appear to be along the section line road— ways designated and developed as Idaho Road,Tomahawk Road and Goldfield Road; and WHEREAS Idaho,Tomahawk and Goldfield roads are presently developed as city streets;and WHEREAS city streets will become congested as commercial and residential development occurs;and WHEREAS outer loop corridors should be planned now to accommodate long term traffic volume increases;and WHEREAS the Red Mountain and the South Loop expressways should ultimately be extended to the easterly limits of Apache Junction;and WHEREAS State and Bureau of Land Management property in the vicinity of Goldfield Road appears to be a viable location for the State Route 88 corridor;and WHEREAS residential areas along Goldfield Road should be protected from any detrimental aspects a new corridor could create;and WHEREAS the existing physical alignment of State Route 88 should remain unchanged until after the Superstition Freeway is completed. NOW.THEREFORE,be i t resolved by the Mayor and Council of the City of Apache Junction that the Arizona Department of Transportation concentrate it's study in the Goldfield Road vicinity as a future corridor for State Route 88,with no interruptions of existing State Route 88. PASSED this 3RD day of FEBRUARY ,19 87 by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Apache Junction,Arizona.
