A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,SUPPORTING THE CITY OF CASA
GRANDE RESOLUTION NO.1566 AS ADOPTED ON SEPTEMBER 15,
1986,AND URGING THAT THE PINAL COUNTY BOARD OF SUPER-
VISORS,THE PINAL COUNTY PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION,
AND THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES VOICE
OPPOSITION TO THE PROPOSED ASARCO STATE-WIDE LANDFILL
NEAR CASA GRANDE.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS,the Mayor and City Council feel that i t is not
in the best interest of the City of Casa Grande
to locate the proposed ASARCO dump site near
Casa Grande;and
WHEREAS,i t will not be i n the best interest of the City of
Apache Junction,all other cities and towns through-
out Pinal County and Pinal County itself to allow
the ASARCO pit mine to be used as a state-wide and
regional landfill;and
WHEREAS,i t will be detrimental to the economy and development
of Apache Junction and all other Pinal County cities
and towns to be associated with such a landfill
operation;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of
the City of Apache Junction,Arizona,that we unanimously oppose
the ASARCO dump site proposal as being detrimental to the overall
development of Apache Junction,Casa Grande,all other cities
and towns throughout Pinal County,and Pinal County in general,
and do hereby urge the denial of ASARCO's rezoning request and
permit application.

JUNCTION,ARIZONA,THIS 17TH DAY OF FEBRUARY ,1987.
