A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE
JUNCTION,ARIZONA,RE—EMPHASIZING PRIOR REQUESTS TO THE ARIZONA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO RETAIN INTERCHANGES AT IRONWOOD,
IDAHO,TOMAHAWK AND GOLDFIELD ROADS AS WELL AS THE WESTBOUND
LANES OF U.S.HWY 60 WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE SUPERSTITION
FREEWAY IN THE VICINITY BETWEEN THE FREEWAY TERMINII AND GOLD—
FIELD ROAD.
WHEREAS the Arizona Department of Transportation is scheduling the con—
struction of the Superstition Freeway between Power Road and U.S.Hwy 60;
and
WHEREAS numerous meetings have been held between the Arizona Department
of Transportation and the City of Apache Junction to discuss roadway
designs;and
WHEREAS current designs anticipate the construction of interchanges at
Ironwood Drive,Idaho Road,Tomahawk Road,Goldfield Road in the Apache
Junction area;and
WHEREAS the design of the Superstition Freeway interchange at US 60
will significantly impact the economics of the Apache Junction community.
NOW,THEREFORE,be i t resolved that the Mayor and City Council of the
City of Apache Junction,Arizona,re—emphasize prior requests to the Arizona
Department of Transportation to provide for the retention of the Westbound
lanes of US 60 with the construction of the Superstition Freeway in the
vicinity between the freeway terminii and Goldfield Road;and
FURTHERMORE that interchanges be constructed at Ironwood,Idaho,Toma—
hawk and Goldfield Roads with the initial construction of the Superstition
Freeway.
PASSED this 7TH day of APRIL ,19 87 ,by the Mayor
and City Council of the City of Apache Junction,Arizona.
