A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,
ARIZONA,DECLARING THAT THREE REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION CORRIDORS AS RECOM-
MENDED IN THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION TRANSPORTATION/TRANSIT STUDIES SHALL
BE INCORPORATED INTO THE MASTER PLAN FOR THE CITY AND SHALL BE CONSIDERED
IN ALL FUTURE PLANNING AND PROJECT DEVELOPMENT BY THE CITY.
WHEREAS,the Transportation/Transit Studies dated September 1988 were
prepared for the City;and
WHEREAS,the Transportation/Transit Studies resulted from several public
meetings and were developed in conjunction with the City Council,the Trans-
portation Board,The Technical Advisory Committee and the Advisory Committee;
and
WHEREAS,the City Council accepted the Transportation/Transit Studies
at a regularly scheduled council meeting held on October 18,1988;and
WHEREAS,the Transportation/Transit Studies include recommendations
regarding the need for three major transportation corridors:
(1)McKellips Road from the Red Mountain Freeway to State Route 88.
(2)Goldfield Road from State Route 88 to State Route 360 with
eventual extension southward.
(3)An east -west corridor that would connect the Santan Freeway
to U.S.HWY 60.
WHEREAS,the further planning of these transportation corridors and their
preservation for future use as transportation routes is in the best interest
of the City of Apache Junction.
THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the three Regional Transportation Corridors
shown on Figure 15 of the Transportation/Transit Studies shall be incorporated
into the Master Plan for the City of Apache Junction and shall be considered
in all future planning and project development by the City;and further,that
the City Manager and the Director of Public Works are directed to notify all
affected governmental agencies of these plans and to actively solicit their
support and cooperation in the planning and development of the Regional Trans-
portation Corridors.
