A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THAT
THE ARIZONA STATE SELECTION BOARD AND THE ARIZONA STATE
LAND COMMISSIONER APPROVE THE ANNEXATION OF CERTAIN LANDS
INTO THE INCORPORATED BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY OF APACHE
JUNCTION.
WHEREAS,the construction of the Superstition Freeway is nearing
completion and the placement of freeways has historically been a harbinger for
residential,commerical,and industrial development;and
WHEREAS,i t is to the mutual benefit of the City of Apache
Junction and to the State Trust Lands that these lands be carefully developed
to their highest and best use;and
WHEREAS,the City of Apache Junction has the tools through the
involvement of area citizens,its Planning and Zoning Commission,staff,and
City Council to assist the State in planning for this development;and
WHEREAS,the City of Apache Junction can dedicate its efforts
towards the economic development of this area through such resources as its
Economic Development Specialist,Economic Opportunities Action Team,and
Industrial Development Authority;and
WHEREAS,the City can dedicate the life -safety needs for this
area through its Public Safety personnel,providing a level of service which
perhaps exceeds that available from Pinal County;and
WHEREAS,the City can assist in the planning and development of
capital infrastructure for this area;and
WHEREAS,in sum,this area will become increasingly attractive to
development and the City seeks both to work with the State towards enhancing
this development and sharing with the State the benefits of the development;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of
the City of Apache Junction that the Mayor and City Council hereby request that
the Arizona State Selection Board and the Arizona State Land Commissioner
approve the annexation of the following State Lands into the incorporated
boundaries of the City of Apache Junction:Sections 7,8,9,16,17,18,19,
20,21,28,29,30,31,32,33,Township 1 South,Range 8 East,Gila and Salt
River Base and Meridian,Pinal County,Arizona;and Sections 4,5,and 6,
Township 2 South,Range 8 East,Gila and Salt River Base and Meridian,Pinal
County,Arizona.
