A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,URGING PINAL COUNTY TO IMPROVE
BROADWAY AVENUE FROM GOLDFIELD ROAD TO MOUNTAIN VIEW ROAD.
WHEREAS,it has been brought to the attention of the city of
Apache Junction that a request has been made to pave Broadway Avenue
outside of the corporate city limits;and
WHEREAS,the existing condition of Broadway Avenue from Gold-
field Road to Mountain View Road could be improved to enhance vehicular
and pedestrian traffic;and
WHEREAS,the Arizona Revised Statutes §9-240 and §9-276
(General Powers of Common Council and Additional Powers of Cities)
do not provide authorization for the City to spend city revenues and
citizen tax dollars outside of the corporate boundaries;and
WHEREAS,a representative of the Pinal County legislative
branch,the Board of Supervisors,made a commitment to pave this
section of Broadway Avenue;and
WHEREAS,the citizens of Apache Junction pay property taxes
and pay the Pinal County excise tax (1/21t sales tax for roads)to
support such capital projects and roadway improvements projects
throughout all areas of Pinal County;and
WHEREAS,the citizens of Apache Junction,including those
within and without the corporate city limits,deserve such capital
projects regardless of the potential for the capital project to one
day be included within the borders of the City;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,that the Pinal County Board
of Supervisors be urged to improve Broadway Avenue from Goldfield Road
to Mountain View Road so that the health,safety and welfare of the
citizens ---and especially the children ---will be better served.
