A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE
JUNCTION, ARIZONA,AUTHORIZING THE COMMUNITY ACTION HUMAN RESOURCES
AGENCY (CAHRA)TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR EMERGENCY SHELTER GRANT
PROGRAM (ESGP)FUNDING THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC SECURITY BY
THE STEWART B.MCKINNEY HOMELESS ASSISTANCE ACT.
WHEREAS,the City of Apache Junction desires to prevent homelessness;
and
WHEREAS,the Community Action Human Resources Agengy (CAHRA)is desirous
of providing assistance to those persons residing in the City who are in danger
of becoming homeless;and
WHEREAS,the Department of Economic Security is the entity designated to
distribute federal funds allocated to the State of Arizona targeted to prevent
individuals from becoming homeless through the Stewart B.McKinney Homeless
Assistance Act;and
WHEREAS,distribution to nonprofit organizations are permitted only
where the unit of general local government in which the assisted projects are
to be located has approved the proposed project and executed a certification to
that effect.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Mayor and City Council of the
City of Apache Junction,Arizona authorizes the Community Action Human
Resources Agency (CAHRA)to submit an application to the Arizona Department of
Economic Security for Emergency Shelter Grant Program funding in the amount of
$15,000 through the Stewart B.McKinney Homeless Assistance Act,and authorizes
the Mayor to sign a certification stating the approval of the project by the
City of Apache Junction,Arizona;and
THAT,the City of Apache Junction encourages the Department of Economic
Security to fund the Community Action Human Resources Agency on behalf of the
potentially homeless citizens of the City of Apache Junction.
