A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE LANDFILL SITING COMMITTEE'S
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE STUDY OF PROPOSED INTER -COUNTY
REGIONAL LANDFILL TO SERVE THE NEEDS OF NORTHWESTERN
PINAL COUNTY AND SOUTHEASTERN MARICOPA COUNTY.
WHEREAS, Pinal County has developed a mission statement which in part
seeks to evaluate the condition of solid/liquid waste disposal in Pinal County,
develop a plan and recommend steps to implement a program that will result in
developing an environmentally sound,aesthetically pleasing,state-of-the-art
facility,to include provisions to reduce,recycle and reuse the waste stream at
the lowest possible costs to the end user;and
WHEREAS,the City of Apache Junction recognizes the need for an
inter -county regional landfill to serve Pinal and southeastern Maricopa Counties;
and
WHEREAS,it is the intent to develop steering committees composed of
representatives of interested jurisdictions and agencies;and
WHEREAS,each participating jurisdiction is requested to formally
endorse the concept of a three -tiered Steering Committee composed of technical,
management and political representatives to make recommendations to the County
Board of Supervisors where the landfill will be located.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of the
City of Apache Junction,Arizona,that the concept o f a three -tiered Southeast
Regional Landfill Steering Committee is endorsed and that appointments be
confirmed as follows:
Political representative:Councilperson Sharyn Alger
Management representative:City Manager
Technical representative:Public Works Director
