RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,OBJECTING TO ANY PROPOSED
REDISTRICTING PLAN FOR STATE LEGISLATIVE DISTRICTS OF
THE STATE OF ARIZONA WHICH WOULD DIVIDE THE MUNICIPAL
LIMITS OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,STATE OF ARIZONA.
WHEREAS,unified representation before the State Legislature of the State of
Arizona is important to the citizens of the City of Apache Junction,State of
Arizona;and
WHEREAS,the citizens of the City of Apache Junction,State of Arizona,reside
in Pinal County,State of Arizona,and their interests are more in common with
Pinal County,State of Arizona,than with Maricopa County,State of Arizona or
with Gila County,State of Arizona;and
WHEREAS,the community of the City of Apache Junction,State of Arizona,is
ethnically mixed;and
WHEREAS,District Seven (7)of the Arizona State Legislature as i t presently
exists represents the City of Apache Junction,is properly ethnically balanced
and as a result the citizens of the City of Apache Junction enjoy able
representation in the Arizona State Legislature by elected representatives which
includes persons of minority ethnic heritage;and
WHEREAS,the citizens of minority descent of the City of Apache Junction,State
of Arizona,have a commonality of interests and their ability to have those
interests adequately represented before the State Legislature would become
diluted if the municipal limits of the City of Apache Junction, State of Arizona,
were to become divided into different state legislative districts;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of the City of
Apache Junction,State of Arizona,as follows:
SECTION I
That the City of Apache Junction,State of Arizona,is opposed to any plan of
redistricting state legislative districts for the State of Arizona which would
divide the municipal limits of the City of Apache Junction,Arizona into
different legislative districts.

SECTION II
That the City of Apache Junction,State of Arizona,hereby objects to the current
plans for redistricting of state legislative seats for the Arizona State
Legislature which would,in fact,split and divide the municipal limits of the
City of Apache Junction,State of Arizona,into different legislative districts.
SECTION III
That the Clerk of the City of Apache Junction,State of Arizona,is hereby
instructed to deliver a copy of this Resolution to the elected representatives
of the state legislature which currently represent the municipal limits of the
City of Apache Junction,State of Arizona,and to further deliver a copy of this
Resolution to the Civil Rights Division of the Office of the Attorney General of
the United States of America.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,
ARIZONA,THIS 21ST DAY OF APRIL ,1992.
