A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE
JUNCTION, ARIZONA, SUPPORTING THE NEED FOR A FLOOD CONTROL STRUCTURE
ALONG WEEKES WASH.
WHEREAS,flood prevention watershed projects are intended to reduce flood
waters and resulting damage to life and property,and
WHEREAS,the Buckhorn-Mesa watershed is one of five interrelated areas
susceptible to flooding in Eastern Maricopa and Northwestern Pinal Counties,and
WHEREAS, the people living in the Buckhorn-Mesa Watershed together with the
East Maricopa Natural Resources Conservation District,Pinal County Board of
Supervisors, Flood Control District of Maricopa County and the Soils Conservation
Service have formulated a plan for flood prevention,and
WHEREAS,an environmental impact statement was approved in 1976,and
WHEREAS,the project will be financed by Federal Funds made available
through Public Law 566 and funds provided by the City of Apache Junction and
Pinal County,and
WHEREAS,aesthetic problems will be minimized by landscaping techniques,
and
WHEREAS,the benefits derived will include reduction of flooded streets,
damaged utilities, damages homes, sedimentation of streets and maintenance costs,
and
WHEREAS, the above benefits will improve access of transportation corridors
during storm condition,;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,by the Council of the City of Apache
Junction, Arizona,that the City of Apache Junction supports the need for a flood
control structure along Weekes Wash in a configuration and at a location that can
mitigate environmental,aesthetic and benefit/cost issues.
