A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE
JUNCTION,ARIZONA,OPPOSING THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION
PROPOSAL TO CHANGE THE PHOENIX TERMINAL CONTROL AREA (TCA)/CLASS B
AIRSPACE DESIGN.
WHEREAS,the citizens of the City of Apache Junction and the surrounding area are
greatly concerned about the Federal Aviation Administration proposal to
redesignate the Phoenix Terminal Control Area (TCA)/Class B Airspace Design for
Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport;and
WHEREAS,this proposal would extend the Phoenix Terminal Control Area (TCA)
eastward and increase the use of the Apache Junction area airspace by large,
commercial air carriers and major airlines;and
WHEREAS,this proposal would also expand the Class B Airspace Design and lower
the base altitudes,allowing the large,commercial air carriers and major
airlines to fly through the Apache Junction area airspace at lower elevations;
and
WHEREAS,the lowering of the base altitudes would,in turn,force general
aviation traffic to fly lower in the Apache Junction area airspace,increasing
the likelihood of midair collisions;and
WHEREAS,the proposed changes to the Phoenix Terminal Control Area (TCA)/Class
B Airspace Design will be detrimental to the use and protection of the Tonto
National Forest and Superstition Wilderness Area;and
WHEREAS,the Federal Aviation Administration has not provided the City of Apache
Junction with any notice of these proposed changes;and
WHEREAS,it is improper for the Federal Aviation Administration to consider these
accomodations for large,commercial air carriers and major airlines while
subjecting the citizens of the City of Apache Junction and the surrounding area
to increased noise,air pollution and risk to their safety and well being.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,that this Resolution serve as a formal notice to the
Federal Aviation Administration that we are opposed to the redesignation of the
Phoenix Terminal Control Area (TCA)/Class B Airspace Design now under
consideration.
